Why would anyone be interested in voting, you guys do whatever you want anyway. It takes you about a year to add some half-descent lists and you remove one of the better ones. You guys need to realize that you're not curating the Louvre over here.
It's so nice to see that a list of "road movies" is considered more important then any of the lists for Academy Award winners.
You bemoan the lack of participation yet it has taken you MONTHS to come to this result of basically a mere 4 new lists. Why should anyone go to all the trouble in participating in this process when not even the #2 choice is made official??
It seems like a case of "too many cooks", and makes one question the motives and/or prejudices of whoever is making these decisions. Really, how hard is it?
8 months without an update. Is this site still being actively managed? Did you fix the search function yet? Where is the new design we've been hearing bout for years?
And Italian cinema deserves more official lists, or at least more films with the official status thanks to new books & critics lists. All critic lists are Anglophone critics:
- Amos Vogel who? only known in English world, not translated in any other language.
- Halliwell's? who the fuck is John Walker? Certainly well known in Brit, not in my garden.
- David Thomson? not even translated in other language than in English. Brit, of course, this big country of cinema.
- Jonathan Rosenbaum? Yeah, great. He's like the Michel Ciment or the Jean Douchet US critic, right?
- Roger Ebert? Hum, Chicago... it's sound like a US city. A US critic, right?
- The best from the Times, from the Guardian, from TimeOut all these stuff are English sources, right?
And I don't even mention all (and good) thousands BFI lists.
English speakers are the only people who are able to critic films? More diverse sources, please.
Save my life, guys, find us more diverse sources. Start with a list of critics, historians, magazines, institutions, web sites, from all over the world, which seem legit (for instance, the French version of TimeOut magazine, it's not a legit source), and find out if there's some pertinent lists to add. I'm sure there's millions legit sources for Italian or Japanese cinema for instance, with domestic sources.
It would be great if there was a page somewhere (icm itself or on one of the forums) that would lay out the general rules for mods in regard to list adoption and, more importantly, list removal and list replacement.
Right now there seems to be substantial confusion about
the guidelines involved, even amongst the mods themselves.
This could maybe help avoiding frustrating and alienating some of us more dedicated users.
Thank you for your hard work building and developing this site! It has contributed a great deal to my movie-watching these past few years, and I am really grateful for that. And thank you for the new official lists!
This controversy really bewilders me. If you're that furious about "wasting time" watching films that have now turned unofficial, you're watching movies for the wrong reasons. And it's not as if the demoted lists aren't still available to work on.
You'd think ADDING new official lists would be the real controversy but, no, everyone just wants more and more official lists because every time there's a new set of adoptions, whee, it's like Christmas morning with a stocking full of new, happy-accident checks. And getting that temporary high is so much more important than the ongoing devaluing of what "official" status means.
Demote the They Shoot Zombies and 1000 Noir Films lists next. Literally hundreds of lousy films are official solely because of those two lists.
Very happy to see the Best Documentary Oscar list perform so well in the poll. Hopefully it stands a chance of being considered for adoption in the future.

Thanks, but 10 years with not even one adult list.Nopros
This is fucked. I know users that are choosing to stop paying for ICM premium after this fucked up decision. Please stop removing good lists.Cinephage
What's happy about checking films that can become unofficial at any given time ??jeroeno

The genuine non-official official list is this one :https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/i+capolavori+-+the+4+and+5+star+italian+classics+according+to+the+morandini+dictionary/stefanaki/

Not a fan of making lists unofficial when there's nothing wrong with them! =(mathiasa

By the way, still no kids movies lists, unless you count animation as one which of course it's not, not exactly. But thanks for making 4 additional lists official.
