Ladies time to have fun
Favs/dislikes: 0:0. PTP list Recent gender reversal movies reenact prior male dominated stories or themes from a female perspective. But movies that defy women's traditional roles can be traced back to the first half of the 20th century. I collect here some of those emblematic movies that deconstruct the usual subordinated roles of women in cinema. However, this is not a feminist list for one main reason: the recent gender flipping movies are not necessarialy feminist as they may reproduce manly values, like violence and physical force as well as reproducing established gender division. -

Movies for antinatalists
Favs/dislikes: 0:1. Crowdsourced! This is fairly inclusive short of just all existentialist or pessimist or apocalyptic films - there are already lists of those. Any movies, stand-ups, music videos or series that might be of special interest to antinatalists, mostly recommendations from reddit (not all very rigorous but mostly added them all anyway) https://antinatalisminternational.com/reference-guides/anfilm/#1605215074237-5796ecdd-7268 https://www.reddit.com/r/antinatalism/comments/2zanp1/movies_antinatalists_might_like/ and other threads there + https://letterboxd.com/brainless_/list/anti-natalism-cinema/detail/ https://letterboxd.com/spaceageoctave/list/antinatalist-cinema-the-horrors-of-parenthood/detail/ DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE THEME ANY GLANCE HERE OR IF THIS LIST SHOWS UP FOR YOUR MOVIE MAY BE A SPOILER. SORRY ABOUT THAT. Some of those may only have a passing phrase that relates to antinatalism, and the rest of the film might not be about anything pessimistic at all. A lot of those still have a pro-natalist message. I would even hold back Arrival but it's a bit more nuanced apparently. Anyway, big warning for that one, as well as for any family movies here. might remove after watching: Housekeeping, Dalloway also chucked in Lawrence Anton's favorite film, Withnail & I Films mentioned for egregious natalism: A Quiet Place + Part II Birdbox Hunger Games A Boy and His Dog 1975 Greenland https://www.reddit.com/r/antinatalism/comments/muqglg/pregnant_during_an_apocalypse_movie_trope/ Films I removed after watching: Pandora (2016) Mauvaises Herbes Mrs Dalloway see comments for clips not on IMDb: Life Is Random Father John Misty: Pure Comedy (the music video, see docu listed) not released My So-Called Selfish Life not added (yet?) https://letterboxd.com/kalabalik/list/antinatalism/detail/ -

Nikolas Schreck's The Satanic Screen
Favs/dislikes: 0:0. work in progress... Satan has figured in film since the very birth of cinema. "The Satanic Screen" documents all of Satan's cinematic incarnations, covering not only the horror genre but also a whole range of sub-genres including hardcore porn, mondo and underground film. Heavily illustrated with rare still photographs, posters and arcana, the book also investigates the perennial symbiotic interplay between Satanic cinema and leading occultists (for example, Aleister Crowley), making it essential reading for anyone interested in the Black Arts and their continuing representation in populist culture. -
Official checks with unknown runtimes
Favs/dislikes: 0:0. For awhile, I've been on a peripheral quest to fill in the "unknown" runtime fields for all official-check films. With some help from others, I believe I've engineered close to 200 runtimes being added (not counting many other runtimes I've added for "unofficial" films). Usually, the process also involved submitting a runtime to IMDB first, so I'm conscientious about wanting to get the length exactly right using a credible Web resource (or hopefully, *more* than one to confirm). I share this list so others can message me if they have knowledge of these remaining films -- films for which I have either conflicting information, thin information or no information at all. Ideally, an officially cited length from some sort of catalog page (for instance, http://www.worldcat.org) seems more definitive than just quoting how long a possibly erratic torrent or YouTube video lasts, but I'll take what I can get. A few of the earliest shorts are problematic...shorts lasting under a minute seem to defy the update process. I note that three widely seen shorts from the 19th century get sifted to the top if you sort the list by runtime, even though their runtimes are listed as "unknown." Strange. -

Peter A. Balaskas.....The Top Ten Films of the 2000s
Favs/dislikes: 0:0. Peter A. Balaskas (Born 1969 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American author of speculative fiction. Balaskas received his BS in Chemistry (minor in English) and his MA in English with a double emphasis in Creative Writing and Literature from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Before focusing on professional writing, Balaskas worked as an environmental chemist, a theatre actor, a page for NBC Studios, a camera technician for the soap opera Passions, and a copy editor. His fiction and poetry have been published in The Aroostook Review, Del Sol Review, Neon Beam Magazine, Pale Skies, Sage of Consciousness, Bewildering Stories, and his critical essay on Harlan Ellison's "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" was published in Criterion. He cites Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Harlan Ellison, Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and Stephen King as some of his early influences. "However, it is now 2010. And a number of reviews have arrived which list their top ten films of the past decade. After much thought, what was horribly lacking in 2009 was very much alive and well throughout the previous nine years, and I’m talking about films that somehow stay with you as time goes on, films that show strength, integrity, complexity, perseverance, and a simple sense of morality, courtesy of three ingredients: excellent writing, phenomenal acting and superb direction. If you are interested in knowing what the Top Ten Films from 2000-2009 were, come and enjoy the cinematic ride. Your fellow travelers will include a martial arts master, a dark knight, a killer clown, a cute French girl, a cute Swedish vampire, a spunky American boxer, a spunky Italian photographer, people who are obsessed about a ring…and let us not forget the pagan god, Pan, as well as a certain Messiah who has generated the most controversy in cinematic history." -
