Munshi: What Korean/Chinese films are "crap," as you say? Mainstream mediocrity from India shows up on IMDb because India uses English widely. Koreans and Chinese have their own sites (such as Daum or Naver). So, in this sense, language does matter.
The general sentiment here isn't anti-India, but rather anti-bad movies. And it just so happens that almost all of the Bollywood films in these decades lists are mediocre at best, terrible at worst (Rang De Basanti, anyone?).
Munshi, let's be honest: The quality of Bollywood cinema that has pervaded the 1990s/2000s/2010s lists aren't exactly of a higher caliber. I don't think it's as racist as it is filled with a level of dread that incoming films are equally as mediocre.
And after watching Kahaani, I'm running out of reasons to defend these films.
pitn, it's unfortunate that mediocre Bollywood cinema is popping up on these lists and creating a negative opinion of the industry as a whole. In case you haven't seen it, I recommend Udaan as an example of a film that they did quite well. It's also #14 currently on the 2010s list.
And for the record, Rang De Basanti may be the single worst film I've seen because of iCM to date.
Will the people in India please agree once and for all which films from their country should enter the list? I've seen too many already, and they keep getting replaced by others. And they all star Aamir Khan!
So you have a completely inexplicable, arbitrary definition of "foreigner" and then proceed to condemn any movie that falls under that definition. Interesting.
Though I'm glad you don't think ALL "foreigners" are bad (just most of them, apparently,) because otherwise that might be a tad xenophobic or something.
Kunggi - If you're actually from Finland I suppose that every movie on this and almost every other list (minus those that include things like Kaurismaki films) would qualify as a "foreigner movie."
Also, it's "hard to watch" a film just because it happened to be made in a country other than your own (or, I'm guessing, the US?) Ok.
It is kind of amazing how many people don't realize the imdb lists are based on uservotes. Besides, it is just annoying to read all the "where is movie X???" on every fricking imdb list comments. There is only room for 50 movies!
I guess Mr. Nobody is not on this list because it has a 7.7 on imdb, while Okuribito, the current number 50, has a 8.1! Simple math tells us that 8.1 is greater than 7.7
