Looking over ICheckMovies, I found my tastes quite closely resembled this list from Reddit, so I've been following it and watching more flicks from the list.
worked out well so far, and seen some cool new movies.
Hell, I'd disqualify this list just based on the kind of people in the Reddit community. It's a Gen X fest, and is always the same mid-to-late-90s and 2000s cult-but-still-popular-classics crowding up the list, with 80s nostalgia sprinkled in.
While /r/movies is a shithole, I still never expected this list to be so much worse than (even) IMDB 250. I guess it reflects the age of the userbase that believes cinema began with Chris Nolan (or Tarantino if they're a bit older).
It's a pop culture list. You could literally watch all of these and understand what anyone's ever talked about film-wise. I think it's good in that aspect.
