Remember folks, this film is about beauty, and those long drawn out wordless sequences are trying to express that the closer you get to the ineffable, to God, the less words you have to describe it.

I think that 99% of people who say, 'Masterpiece' really didn't understand the movie.

Extremely beautiful, but so boring. I honestly had to fast forward some parts because it went by so slowly. Actually might need to watch a fast paced action movie to get this "slowlyness" out of my system.

it's really boring. music is not matching with the scenes. Also too slow. may be interesting in 1968.

2001 A Space Odyssey is visually stunning, amazing . Special effects were wonderful for its time. But, its dull boring.. no clever dialogue, no humor, no actions, no love, emotionally dull...the ending ..i don't get it...

But i admit, this movie was a pioneer of many special effects in years later...

This was not what I was looking for in a movie. Sure, the effects were neat, and I did wonder how it was all done, but it wasn't a good experience for me. But I did find myself thinking about how it would have been to see the effects back in '68. Today, it just seems irrelevant.

There were a lot of long, boring scenes, music choice didn't seem to suit it, twenty minutes of monkeys, and an unrewarding ending that made me wonder why I just sat through it all (not that an ending makes a movie, it just seemed flat).

Just thought that I'd say the word boring again.

I'd expect to be challenged by fans telling me that I don't "get it". But a sequence of fancy looking scenes just doesn't cut it for me. I'm glad that I watched it though - once - despite not loving it.

It's very idiosyncratic and easy to watch, at least for me. Not boring at all.
HAL was also interesting.
