Eminem's semi-autobiographical 8 Mile adequately tells the story of a white rapper raised in a Detroit ghetto, where everyone is apparently a skilled rhyming demon. It's essentially the story told by the song "Lose Yourself", and I like how the audience isn't allowed more than the bed track or a few lyrics before the very end, as "Jimmy Rabbit" (in lieu of "Slim Shady") struggles to find his voice, compose his lyrics, and create a viable stage persona. While this could be seen as a big ol' commercial for Eminem records, the unapologetically white trash artist who started with nothing, there sheer lack of Eminem tunes means it's not quite as self-serving as, say, a Vanilla Ice movie. 8 Mile is instead a well-handled biopic-in-his-own-lifetime that plays like a boxing story and has, at its heart, the message that if you want to make it, you've got to work at it. And that's rather more ambitious than I thought it would get.
Not one scene takes place without screaming and someone walking out. Unfortunately, the movie never actually mirrors this intensity. Hanson turns Sirk's "Imitation of Life" ironically upside/down; portraying Eminem's hatred of his white trailer trash background and a wish to become part of the black establishment through hip-hop. We lack Sirk's distinct ironic cinematography for satisfaction - this could have been achieved through grittiness (ie 70s exploitation) or posh (City of God) - for now, it is just street-melodrama elevated by entertaining rap-battles.
My palms are sweaty,
This script needs a machete,
Felt like I got chased by Freddy,
Give me a laugh, maybe some Chappelle and Eddie,
And some fine looking women like Wilma and Betty,
Kim B. quit acting, retire already,
%&^$*(+qzx oh no my typing just got unsteady,
Just watch the movie, you might or might not regret it,
But 8 MIle ain't all that worthwhile....alright, yeah I said it
I thought he would have a more interesting story.. I prefer actors instead of the real guy. If the real person is to be shown, it's a documentary! The movie from Notorious B.I.G. is better.. Maybe even the 50 Cent one

Brilliant film, I am not a rap fan, but I really loved this. And Eminem can really act, which surprised meMarkE89
