The main issue of this movie is that it constantly spoils itself: you always know what's going to happen next.

For people who saw Prometheus and thought "You know what? These crewmembers are too competent."

Alien: The One Where Fassbender Fingers Himself

Looked amazing and Fassbender was excellent but apart from that it's nothing to write home about.

Ticked too many cliche boxes and was far too predictable. I actually burst out laughing at one particular scene involving Fassbender and the captain it was so utterly stupid. None of the characters were developed in the slightest and so their inevitable deaths meant nothing to me.

I'm still reasonably satisfied I went to see it but I was hoping for better.

I think that Ridley Scott just hates humanity. The killer android is the most sympathetic character as well as being the most developed.

As a standalone movie you don't need to see any of the others to really follow the action, but it certainly helps to have a frame of reference for what this world is. The prologue before everyone goes into cryosleep should be added back in as it provides a vital foundation for who the human characters are. As it is, James Franco dies without having a single line and it means absolutely nothing to the story. The same goes for when all the other cardboards get picked off one by one.

I had hoped that Ridley Scott learned a few things after the disaster of Prometheus, but no such luck. The same bland movie with just as many logical flaws and unbelievably incompetent characters as last time.

It's like Ridley Scott wanted to make a philosophical space exploration movie but couldn't get it green lit without shoehorning some Aliens into it. So you get a rather generic monster movie without any real atmosphere on the one hand and some trivial pseudo-philosophical themes that are not nearly explored enough on the other hand.

While it had great and cool moments, the stupidity displayed by the crew just ruined it for me. The first stupid decision at the beginning of the movie set the tone for the rest but also set the whole thing in motion.

In terms of visuals, this did not disappoint. The writing was rather weak and unbalanced, with too many ridiculously predictable moments. The action scenes are entertaining enough although the Xenomorph, despite the brilliant creature design, never felt truly threatening to me. Fassbender's acting definitely saved the film.

Overall, it's worth a watch but bleaks in comparison to the original. Simply not that memorable.

At some point, they gotta atleast make it look like the humans have a chance. In the last 2, all they do is treat people like fodder for the alien almost as if they believe this would excite spectators.

I don't particularly care for either Prometheus' or Alien: Covenant's needless prequel-need to explain where the xenomorphs came from, but I do appreciate Ridley Scott's attention to theme, making this latest entry about creators and creations, and giving the franchise probably its best non-alien villain (strangely creepy too). From what I'd read, I was expecting Covenant to be more of a retread of the original film, possibly even a remake in disguise, but while there were unavoidable similarities with Alien and Aliens, it put enough of a spin on those movies' beats for my tastes. Seen as a sequel to Prometheus - which it definitely is, I was straining to recall how the pieces fit - it outdoes the previous tale, but while well told and extremely well made (without a doubt the best Alien film since Aliens), it took me a while to feel any real tension, perhaps due to over-familiarity with the monster and tropes.

Not bad. Not Great. Disappointing for a Ridley Scott film.

This is somehow worse than Prometheus. And Prometheus was terrible.

Should you just waltz onto a foreign planet without an environmental suit? At least the morons on Prometheus kept their suits on for a majority of the time...that ruined both of these movies for me. The crews, which should have been the cream of the crop, highly trained and disciplined were a bunch of absolute idiots.
