As a long time fan of the Working Dog guys I really, REALLY wanted to like this. Unfortunately the first half is a badly paced, convoluted mess, barely saved by a much better second half.
Most of the casting was excellent, let down by some horrible exceptions (Ed Kavalee) and some baffling ones (Rob Carlton - really, you couldn't find anyone age-appropriate for this role so you had to cover Rob in aging make-up?!?!).
Far too much time was spent trying to showcase the "splendors" of Melbourne rather than getting on with the storyline. This might have worked a lot better if Melbourne wasn't such an unbelievably unremarkable city to look at. Yes Melbournites, we know you're inexplicably proud of your city but the rest of us just aren't impressed. It's very boring, no matter how much wank you drape all over it & call art. Get over it.
A big plus was the soundtrack which was consistently brilliant. 11 years 9 months ago
