It's not for everyone immersing the viewer in traditional Inuit folklore and lifestyle, and it's long clocking in at 172 minutes. I loved the story, and was amazed at the technical challenges overcome by the film makers. A stunning achievement shooting this film in the high arctic. I think its well deserving being voted in 2015 as the best Canadian film of all time by the once a decade TIFF film poll.
A fine film, but I found the unfortunately obscure The Journals of Knud Rasmussen and Le Jour Avant le Lendemain (Before Tomorrow) to be at least as compelling. Anybody who liked this film ought to seek them out.
More proof that side chicks are nothing but trouble.
The film can be seen on the NFB's website, but you'll need a subscription. I'd bet every university in Canada has a subscription already, so if you're a student it won't be hard to access this. Otherwise, maybe try your local library?
Am I the only one who struggled to follow this story because every single one of the inuits looked the same, had the same hairstyle, was dressed in the same way, and was called Aquilamakinrjatakaliva?

Watched this just to get the awful taste of Nanook of the North out of my mouth.
