When i first saw this film many months ago in the theatre, i was so glad to experience something fresh on the big screen after seeing numerous comparatively stale and generic films in the weeks beforehand.

A lot of great elements, but honestly this film did nothing for me as a whole.

This movie was great and if you look to the budget of this movie, comparing to the others nominees it have to give a lot of credit to the director, this movie have a very young actress and she is incredible like the story. Hushpuppy: When it all goes quiet behind my eyes, I see everything that made me lying around in invisible pieces.

quote:
Hushpuppy: When it all goes quiet behind my eyes, I see everything that made me lying around in invisible pieces. When I look too hard, it goes away. And when it all goes quiet, I see they are right here. I see that I'm a little piece in a big, big universe. And that makes things right. When I die, the scientists of the future, they're gonna find it all. They gonna know, once there was a Hushpuppy, and she live with her daddy in the Bathtub.

Fantastic score. Really made the movie. And Dwight Henry was fantastic! Disappointed that he didn't end up with any nominations, but he was great regardless and I'll always remember his performance.

This was such an amazing film that I will never forget. The chemistry between the father and daughter was absolutely mesmerizing. Usually voiceovers annoy the crap out of me, yet the innocence of her character and her thoughts said were beautifully written. It somewhat reminded me of The Tree of Life, with a little more sense to it. Beautiful, just beautiful.

The remarkable use of pathos is what makes this film absolutley exceptional. The acting is spot on especially considering that most of them are first time actors. The direction is sentimental, sensitive to the tone of the scene and overflowing with touching emotion. I can understand the elements that attach it to be a film as it was a play before. When you seperate the elements, you see that the script is only good, but the acting and the directing make this film one of the best of 2012. This film teaches, inspires and pulls at the heart strings, all at the same time. Besides, it was probably the only film in 2012 made for the sake of film and not money. Great film.

People who believe movies are inherently narrative really need to expand their definition of cinema. I suppose I can think of some criticisms more meaningless and without substance than "plotless", but not many.

I loved it. A slightly surreal, intoxicating mix of beautiful cinematography and amazing performances.

Although I didn't find the story too interesting, you don't really need anything else than this acting, plot and picture, and that alone makes it a pleasant experience. Didn't expect much, and it's no favorite of mine, but a good 7.5-8/10 is well deserved by this one.

To sum it up:

I wanted to be fully bewitched by this foray into magical realism masquerading as cinéma vérité. But sequences featuring the aurochs woke me from the spell of an otherwise enchanting narrative. Still, I respect the film for offering audiences the seldom-heard voice of Terrebonne Parish. People who live southeast of the levees have been virtually sacrificed to the elements by the rest of Louisiana.

I have to say I absolutely LOATHED this film. Self important, pretentious twaddle of the highest order. I only watched it as part of my self imposed mission to watch all of the Oscar nominated films for best picture.

The child spouting Forrest Gump-esque nonsense was really the most thoroughly unappealing aspect of an already horrid film.

Great movie that is magical and touching. Quvenzhané Wallis and Dwight Henry are both incredible. It's not completely without its longeurs, but the touching interplay between Wallis and Henry, the scenes of strange imagery, and the music, create moments of beauty and wonder.

Very emotional and magical movie. The direction is wonderful and very real, as are the performances (especially by Wallis and Henry). The script is at times though not precise enough.

Didn't really expect anything - but wow. Magical and real at the same time. Fantastic acting.
