The film Stalin is said to have loved more than any other was the 1938 Hollywood production Boys Town, starring Spencer Tracy as Father Edward J. Flanagan, a real-life character who ran a home for delinquent boys. He enjoyed one scene so much that he would “grab the arm of the person sitting next to him, squeeze and say ‘Look at that, look at that!’” whenever it came on-screen. He apparently watched the film 256 times. 7 months 2 weeks ago -

I'd note that Boys Town still stands, and had their 100th anniversary, without any sign of scandal.
It is a heavy handed movie, but very much a product of it's era for that. 6 years ago -

If only life were this simple. I wonder if this movie came off as overly idealistic in 1938 as it does today? This movie stands in contrast to what we see in the media today with priests molesting boys and boys shooting teachers and caretakers in the community. Has society become angrier and uglier or have we simply embraced the anger and ugliness that always existed. I like this movie because it shows us how we *could* be if people were all good at heart. 11 years 4 months ago
