I watched Bridesmaids, which I'd always feared doing because I equated it with The Hangover (which I hate with a passion). No doubt, the thought of Melissa McCarthy pooping in a sink is what put that fear in me. Rather, it's the story of two bridesmaids jealous of each other and the other's relationship to the bride, as well as a sweet romcom for Kristen Wiig's protagonist. Those two stories make the film over-long and oddly paced, but while no gutbuster, it still had an appreciable emotional truth that made me warm to it early (the Wiig-Rudolph friendship felt very real to me) and made me want to allow myself to be touched in the third act. It wants to be a raucous comedy, I think, but should settle for amusing and heartwarming. There's really nothing wrong with that.
I felt underwhelmed when I first saw this. Prefering the crasser humour of The Hangover. But with repeat viewings, I have found that Bridesmaids humour is far more diverse, being at times vulgar, but others tactful, making it ultimatly much funnier than I initally thought. It may owe a lot ot it's Vegas set male counterpart, but has subtly gained the upper hand over it.
A refreshing spin on the Appatow/Frat Pack/Hangover genre of raunchy guy movies, but unfortunately it is only that - a spin on the same thing. The film, while filled with the always hilarious antics of Kristen Wiig, feels like a retread in some ways of the far funnier film, "I Love You, Man". The laughs in "Bridesmaids" feel predictable, stale and much of the real pleasure in watching the film is derived from the chemistry between Wiig and Chris O'Dowd. There is much to be appreciated in this film existing, but the gag reel included on the DVD was funnier than much of the actual film.
Thought it was great. Loads of heart help keep me engaged and the laughs were well spaced and delivered. Great flick. Can't imagine the hate. Way better than the oft compared "The Hangover".

I'd heard good things so this turned out to be a massive disappointment. Not terrible but not very good either.Siskoid
