Filmmakers: If you're going to make a dumb action movie, make this. Smaller, faster, and less serious is almost always better. Nobody needs Transformers, ever.

Crank is not what I'd call a great piece of filmmaking. It is, however, what I'd call a great example of a hyperkinetic piece of entertainment so unabashedly excessive, outrageous and completely insane I cannot help but admire it for those qualities. Within the opening 5 minutes, I was already along for the ride, after a great opening sequence which puts you right into the shoes of Chev Chelios through a disorienting POV shot. Jason Statham rules the film with his trademark deadpan attitude, which fits perfectly given that someone has to acknowledge within the film itself the absurdity of his dilemma. Although the film runs a little out of steam by the time Amy Smart shows up and the final half hour doesn't live up to the frenetic insanity of the opening 45 minutes, Crank is a great choice to spend 90 minutes to witness some over the top craziness.

The first Crank is actually pretty entertaining. It's starts right in the action and never lets go, as we follow a man who must continually adrenalize his system or die of heart failure. Flashbacks'll catch us up eventually, but don't look for this to be any kind of character study. Buy the premise, buy the bit, and it's all premise, baby. The pace is frenetic, the stunts exciting, the characters funny, the tone irreverent, and the sex and sexism work in that context, amusing more than objectionable.

Completely effin' insane from start to finish and I loved every single second. Some films are great fun if you disengage your brain beforehand, but Crank is so much fun that it disengages your brain for you.

It's like Speed, but with a star who isn't made of wood - well, not unless it's supposed to be a joke about "wood."

But yeah, hard to believe this was on the "Must See" list - action I'd buy.

How is this on any "must-see movies"? There are about 2000 movies I'd put on top of it in any list.
