I've seen a lot of found-footage films, I'd say about 30 or 40 by now, and this is one of the few that actually benefits from utilizing this tired format. And Duplass is brilliant as Josef.
I was surprised this is meant to be a horror comedy though, I didn't find it funny at all, but holy hell did it give me chills.
This is much better than average, as a found-footage character study. The performances are very good-but do performances matter so much within a sub-genre that purports to be a part of real life? The central character is unique and new, and his ideas are fascinating. He's a psycho, and I wish we'd known more about him. A worthwhile film. I didn't find it particularly scary, but it was certainly chilling.
While this film is very well made and acted, it is also an excellent found footage film with some genuinely creepy moments,it relies too heavily on jump scares to be great. At first, the jump scares made sense with what was going on int he scenes and the character but after halfway through the movie they just became unnecessary and just excessive on top of a film that was already unnerving me by its wonderful subtlety.
Definitely give this little gem a go! It lives up to its title immediately with Mark Duplass' awesomely creepy performance. And I found it hilarious too...when I wasn't scared.
Patrick Brice's Creep (starring pretty much just him and Mark Duplass) does a better job than most at justifying its found footage style, but there's really more than one movie idea in it, and I'm not sure we ended up with the best possible version. The initial concept has Duplass hiring a videographer to tape a day's reflections for an unborn child, and for the first half of the film, what we get is an awkward situation that only gets more awkward. Its edge feels real, and it's where the film is at its most disturbing. As it moves towards the final act, it sort of switches gears into horror/thriller territory, and is far less effective (though I do love the final "inception" jump scare). Because from there, it feels like we know where it's heading. The ending's revelations are still good and creepy, but nothing like getting to know the character in the first and second acts.
Well that was creep. There is only tension, but a nice amount of it. It felt so realistic and plausible that at the end of the movie I didn't even expect Aron to be murdered anymore, but I liked the way it happened. Nice Heart Rock.

I think with a bit of trimming (10-15 minutes?) and maybe a different song for the end credits then it would've been a masterpiece.It was enjoyable, though. Duplass was great as always.
