this is the greatest film I've seen. it hit me hard. when a film gets you to reflect upon what you've just seen and view it as a whole piece of art it is truly magical. its a poetic portrayal of real life and as a result is so powerful in showing how people interact with one another.
a film has never affected me more. at the end credits I was just overwhelmed. i knew elements of it which particularly impressed and connected with me, but couldnt really explain why.. and in a way, the best films can't quite be put into words

As transcendent of a film as I've probably ever encountered, this expressionistic, borderline musical, finds roots in Malick, Fosse and in somewhere much deeper and original than even those masters managed to go. There are few movies that I've seen that come closer to capturing the way the human heart and mind find things - memories, good and bad, all bathed in gold, bathed in simultaneous shock and forgiveness. A cleansing wash and a million other trite attempts to explore the beauty of this quiet, hopeful and mournful little film. "In the Bleak Midwinter" has never meant more.

it is the second movie in Terence Davies's autobiographical series, the other two movies being The Terence Davies Trilogy (1983) and The Long Day Closes (1992)

the film is in two segments. when it opens the title reads Distance Voices. Such a great title and concept. the music is great. turns out the segments were filmed two years apart.

Can someone tell me why 90% of the film they are singing? At first I found it weird and great in the storytelling, but after one hour of singing I just got annoyed. I disliked this.
