Normally I am the one defending "boring" movies but this was a real drag. In the end it got a little better but I think they could have made a 1h45m version without losing any important scenes. In that case it might have worked for me.

I watched the 5+ hour version by the way.

I think this whole movie is a meh moment. Stunning colours, though.

Somewhat similar to The Night of the Hunter. Very good.

My first foray into Ingmar Bergman's was a wee bit underwhelming

I think it's a bit overrated... But most of all: WHAT'S THE POINT WITH FANNY? She doesn't do anything in the whole movie to bring the story forward! Why let HER be in the title for the movie?

NB. This is the 2 hours shorter original cinema-version (in opposite to the 5 hours TV-version, also here on the website)!

Watched the theatrical version and it was fantastic. I'm definitely going to see the TV-version next time!

A great way to finish a fantastic film career for Bergman. Sven Nykvist's cinematography makes every shot a lush mixture of beauty and colour. An unsurpassed epic of incomprehensible greatness. Although... there were a few 'meh' moments. 9/10
