Despite many great action sequences, this instalment failed to evoke any genuine excitement from me. A typical action movie with no meaningful substance.

However, the last 10-15 minutes was a beautiful tribute to the late Paul Walker and for me, was the defining moment of the movie. And ultimately, it had no relation to the initial plot!

I wanted over the top action and cars and I got over the top action and cars. That's as serious and in-depth a review that this movie deserves, imho.

A competent though lesser entry in what has quickly become the chief competitor to Marvel films, with lots of save-the-world/family action, but no superpowers--only super cars! (unless you count The Rock's astounding bulk as a superpower)

Like the previous several Fast/Furious films, this one is a crime-drama/heist, with barely a nod to its punk racer roots. Oh, and Jason Statham is there! Wow! Unfortunately, he only pops his head up a few times for appearances and doesn't really do anything. What a letdown...

While the last couple films built expectations for this to stellar levels, having one of the greatest car action sequences ever in Fast Five, and just a good ol' ensemble time in Furious 6, Furious 7 can't hold the momentum.

All of the action sequences are fantastic, but they are poorly strung together. Early on in a planning scene I found myself feeling like I had missed nearly a minute of exposition, as I couldn't piece together why they were deciding on a certain action, and this happens several times throughout the film. Things happen because they need to happen in order to reach the next action scene, and for little other reason. I know this is a logic-out-the-window type of film, but the last two movies managed to convincingly suspend your disbelief, and this one does not.

Don't get me wrong. Furious 7 is tons of fun, but it's no Fast Five. This new director hasn't found his feet just yet. We had to endure one not-so-great entry (F&F4) from Justin Lin, as well. Better luck next time.

Probably my least favorite of the series. The stunt work is excellent, and the set pieces are mostly awesome, but they serve the most tacked on story since 4 and Statham is a terrible villain. Instead of lending prestige and action star cred he's a not grounded enough to ever be fearsome or interesting. And the final action scene in LA drags. So much is going on and I never feel any sense of danger or care about what's going on. It's decent, but not what this series deserves considering the last two have been really fun and well made.

This series evolved from plain Bad movies to hilarious unintentional comedies. This one in particular is too funny in a very Bad way, although The tribute in the end is a beautiful moment.

Everything you would expect from a Fast and Furious movie. Drink every time there is a gratuitous slow panning shot of a lady and/or car (50% of the film). Too long for what it is but still fun.

It's less racing & more martial movie than all those previous F&F. 7th part even reaches Bay's "Transformers" by number of explosions and ruined buildings & "Expendables" by amount of famous actors.
Mostly enjoyed cars on roads and above, epic "Diesel VS Statham" and "Walker VS Jaa" fightings, "Tyrese & Ludacris" sense of humor and as always perfect range of music.
Finally, I was disappointed only that Lucas Black had so minor role.
One last thing: this movie ends extremely sadly.

Terrible movie. Bad acting and badly scripted. I feel sorry for Paul Walker but his demise didn't make this movie any better.

over-the-top, cheesy and cliched are words that can be used to describe this movie. also applicable are hilarious, entertaining and FUN.

leave your brain at the door and simply revel in the stupidity and inane choreography of twisted metal and revving engines and you're pretty much in for an action-packed rip-roaring ride.

performances are perfunctory but the directing shines, without which the movie would have fallen apart. the director knew exactly how he wanted to shoot the movie and simply had fun with it. the actors too seem to have formed excellent chemistry over the years and it truly shows. the plot is truly utter nonsense and i completely forgot why exactly things were happening after a point.

8/10 suspension-of-disbelief a MUST

P.S. a beautiful tribute to the late Paul Walker at the end. REALLY well done

Furious 7 brings the same kind of insane "superhero" action the last couple movies in the franchise did, but with a meta-poignancy that could only come from Paul Walker's tragic death mid-filming. Is it fair to praise the film for this? I say yes because it's actually part of the story. Since F7 chronologically takes place just after Tokyo Drift, the characters are all reeling from Han's death, and the funereal atmosphere that hovers over the proceedings serves both deaths - the fictional and the real - with Furious 7 ultimately serving as a tribute to Walker. Even divorced from this context, the franchise has been fun since they stopped making it about street racing. If Five was a heist movie, and 6 about a terrorist plot that needed to be stopped, then 7 is a revenge picture that takes no prisoners. Casting Jason Statham as the heavy is a brilliant move because it means it's essentially F&F vs. the Transporter, and that's a license not to take anything too seriously. And for me at least, the progressive move to martial arts action - and if you have Tony Jaa in the cast, you better - is a good one, even if it means everyone and their sister has become Jet Li. A fun time at the theater, with the occasional lump in your throat.

I don't think even Star Wars has that many fantasy elements in it as this movie. Lacking in plot, dialogue ... not good really.

Nice tribute to Paul Walker at the end though.

@mysteryfan: I have a hard time believing you saw the last three installments of this franchise. Cars and racing have become less and less the focus of the movies and, really, are kind of shoehorned in to keep old fans satisfied.
