Boooooring and overhyped. Better to turn on a classic Chow Yun Fat flick.EDIT: My review seems to have drawn many down votes so let me explain my reasoning. This movie is currently rated 9+ on imdb and is getting rave reviews by many reviewers. I thus expected an action movie that in a way redefined the genre of at the very least would offer something new in the genre of 'violence porn'. What I got was an action movie with a story so thin it might have been a wire. Drawn out dialogues with irritating nonsense filled my screen alongside intermittent gun battles which seemed like a movie adaptation of Doom. Hand fights were hilariously choreographed with the 'evil guys' (which all seemed like disposable meat) patiently waiting for their turn to do a little WWE wrestling with 'hitman' Reeves. John Wick as a character was also deprived of character. Couple this with the terrible stereotypical Russian and Italian mob bosses and you end up with a movie that is best found in the discount bin at Walmart.

Once again I couldn't withhold myself from watching a sequel, although I knew it probably would be a watered down version of the original. And yet I could not resist it. And after re-reading my review of the first movie "John Wick", I can only conclude that I was right about that. The final sentence I wrote was as follows: "I admire Reeves that he's still capable to portray a character as Wick at his age of 50 and bring this kind of personage to a higher level, but I'm afraid that this sequel will be a weak carbon copy from the original." . Unfortunately, I was right.
The only difference with the first movie is the amount of fake blood they've used. Again, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) acts with extreme effrontery and he leaves a pile of bodies behind. The fight scenes, with lots of onrushing guards being killed with a well-aimed head shot, are bloodier than in the previous movie. As for the rest, the structure of the story is the same. This time it's not stealing Wick's car and killing his puppy that starts off an unprecedented revenge action. Nope, the retired assassin is required to perform a task commissioned by Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio). A task he can't refuse because of an old code among assassins. The initial refusal is the cause for a drastic revenge, after which Wick is forced to carry it out anyway. The asked execution has such a negative impact on Wick's surroundings and gives rise to even more over the top violence and action packed moments.
Obviously the emphasis in this second movie is focused on the action segments. Once again, the story itself is pretty thin and the lack of depth when talking about the characters is omnipresent. But ultimately, this lack is just an advantage. This way they could focus completely on the well-choreographed action-scenes that follow each other at a fast pace. I am convinced that the number of eliminations is a lot higher here. It was a prudent attempt to further deepen the story about the assassination syndicate and the neutral area in the shape of the Continental Hotel. Interesting? Yes. Necessary? No not really. You know what the movie "John Wick" stands for and that's what you want to see. Sheer brutality, violence and a lot of action. And fortunately, they were very successful in that respect.
I wasn't particularly impressed by it this time. Even though they moved Wick's work-space to a more imaginative location and the images from Rome are more eye-catching than those of New York, I got the impression that this movie simply exploited the success of the first part shamelessly. Even Keanu Reeves didn't have to do his utter best. Granted. The man is very suitable for this role. John Wick's cool-blooded, stoic gaze and the limited use of dialogues are characteristics which are tailor-made for Keanu Reeves. "John Wick: Chapter 2" is a logical sequel to the unexpected success of the first movie. If you are a lover of the better action-movie, this is definitely is something to watch. Now you'll also see how the myth John Wick can kill someone with a pencil. Personally, I think it's time Wick starts to think about his retirement!

Much superior to the first film in my eyes. The first go round took a "less is more" attitude with revealing the world of assassins in the hopes that audiences would fill in the blanks and be intrigued by it. However, that technique has to be done with great care otherwise you risk the audience becoming disinterested which I think that film fell into and felt like a clone of The Equalizer. This one gets the balance just right and everything works better. The fight scene in the mirror gallery is pure art, very well pulled off.benjiman

This is noticeably worse than the first film. This one does some great stuff with the worldbuilding, something the first film generally only hints at. But the action in this sequel is dumbed down and more lazily choreographed than the original. In the first, John is a reluctant strategist. He kills efficiently and when he has to. Now, for some reason, he's a brawler. And when he comes up against another skilled assassin, they each conveniently have horrible aim and can't shoot a slowly moving target that's more than 12 feet away. It looks nice and makes for a fun scene, but is ridiculous if even start to think about it. The movie isn't bad, it's just a disappointing followup.danisanna

Overlong, over the top, lacking danger and forgettable sequel…….but very entertaining slam bang mindless action movie.....give me chapter 3 :-)Actually enjoyed it more second viewing, some time later. Still have the same remarks as above but exciting stuff!

The original John Wick left some loose ends - the matter of the car, for example - and some open questions about the hidden world of assassins and just how John escaped it, which fuel Chapter 2 very nicely, thank you. And the way the film opens up that world means the setting is rife for a third installment. Fans of the original will get more of what they loved - extended gun fu battles, the suggestion of a deep world and history for these characters, high profile actors in small roles, baroque environments that make well-known cities look odd and alien, and a brooding protagonist whose very soul is on the line, if not already lost. Like the best sequels, it recaptures all that and makes it bigger. The Russian mob from the original film was a piddling irritant compared to what is essentially SPECTRE in Chapter 2. The settings are stranger and crazier, the hidden world breaching into our own and yet not, the world's rules get more detailed and interesting while still asking some interesting questions, and the movie doesn't forget what it's about, the enduring love John Wick has for his dead wife. A top-notch, relentless action flick that rises above its video-gamey first person shooter aspect thanks to strong editing, visual flair, an emotional core, world building and clear and precise geography.Showing items 1 – 15 of 18
