A brilliantly choreographed film that looks and feels like it jumped from the pages of a graphic novel. That said, it has the depth of a teenage boy's concept of an action film.
Silly over the top action but it's great fun to watch.
It's refreshing to be able to actually see what's happening in the fight scenes, instead of the shaky camera and close ups from the likes of Bay and Greengrass.
It won't be winning any academy awards but it's an enjoyable flick.
This was made by two stuntmen and it shows. Well choreographed fight scenes, intense cinematography, immersive setting and character design, and simple solid storytelling.
This seems like it has a script that would've been very easy to muck up, but the movie turned out fine thanks to good directing, great action choreography and brilliant choices in the music department. Absolutely loved the Red Circle sequence.
Actions scenes are definitely good, and i liked the fast atmosphere of the movie, but i think the story is too superficial and with a lot of clitches.. So 6/10 for me
Working on The Matrix made Keanu Reeves rather interested in projects that interest me too. His recent career choices have been heavily influenced by Hong Kong cinema. Man of Tai Chi was a pure martial arts picture starring his Matrix stunt man, for example, and John Wick looks a hell of a lot like a Hong Kong-made crime drama/action flick. Story-wise, it's not reinventing anything. It's a revenge picture that would almost seem absurd if it didn't feel so true emotionally. Reeves plays the most dangerous hitman of them all who retired to get married. His wife dies tragically, which puts him on the edge, so when punching bag extraordinaire Theon Greyjoy (whose father runs the Russian mob in New York) steals his car and kills his dog, it's really a matter of psychological transference that puts him on the road to destroying the whole damn organization. Cue lots and lots of action, both hand-to-hand and in the gun fu mold, shot, edited and scored with Hong Kong's maverick attitude, and filled with actors borrowed from various HBO shows. They've already announced a sequel (or prequel), which I believe is as much a testament to the world of assassins created as backstory as anything else. I want to see that hotel again!
Silly, over the top, simplistic, brutal and GREAT fun action movie! Well made and exciting action scenes.
Also very rewatchable. The sequels don't have that same appeal. The first JW is a tight movie full of exciting stuff. The sequels drag on too much and feel more and more like video games.
Your typical action-revenge plot with slick visuals and a sleak production design. Action scenes are good with Keanu Reeves doing all the stunts himself. Almost felt like a throwback to the action flicks from the late 90s early 2000s. If you are looking for an action movie to past the time, John Wick is a solid pick
This movie felt very video-game-esque. While I was entertained throughout the movie, I just couldn't stop thinking about how each scene would be played if it were a game.

Really, really solid. Thoughtful in pacing and it's pastiche style.BigAwesomeBLT
A lot of fun. Nice to see Keanu doing his Matrix shtick again! Awesome fights, guns and I'm pretty sure I would go on a murderous rampage if someoneAlso Alfie Allen is always hilarious looking.

The first movie I watch in over a week involved a dog being killed. After a weekend in which my own dog died, this was the perfect thing to watch.Earring72

Pleasantly surprised with this film. It takes a genius director to have Keanu Reeves' acting abilities not seem woodenaeng
Better than Taken 3 and Wild Card.Showing items 1 – 15 of 37
