squeamish movie lover

A great neo-noir. It's fast, funny and at times absolutely bizzare with great satirical digs at the movie industry and fantastic performances from Robert Downey JR and Val Kilmer, Michelle Monaghan was fabulously sexy too.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is Shane Black's directorial debut, and after Iron Man 3, I was curious to see his first pairing with Robert Downey Jr. The result is a film noir comedy that gets amusingly meta about the genre's narration, and pleasantly surprises with its character choices. The Hollywood setting made the idea of characters knowing they're in a film justifiable, and the story came off as something that might take place in the Elmore Leonard universe. Val Kilmer's Gay Perry steals the show, and is probably the most memorable character Kilmer has played since Doc Holliday in Tombstone. And I've loved Michelle Monaghan since I saw her in Source Code, and would definitely like to see her in more films (not romcoms, please). I did find the casual nudity on the exploitative side, but I've otherwise got no complaints.

This will always one those films that people love or hate - it'll either be too smarta$$ for you or if you have a dry sense of humour like I do, you may find it perfect. I have to watch again to listen to great lines that I missed - they come thick and fast. This is one of those films that Robert Downey Jr. made on his way back to the top and I feel happy for him that that happened - because of films like this.

Only thing I disliked about this movie was the last action scene, seemed a bit forced spoiler

But it was very funny, with Gay Perry being the most funniest character I've seen in a long time and great chemistry between the two leads. Also Michelle Monaghan is sexy...

I don't understand all the hype. The movie is well directed, but the script is poor. The story is totally inconsistent, the jokes are trivial, especially the gay ones.

Not sure this hit me as hard as it could. Felt like a lot of the funny lines and references flew over mye head. But I still found it funny enough, and the chemestry between the two leads were fantastic. RDJ kills it as usual, I just LOVE watching him in movies. Also, the plot is suprinsingly complex, lots of ins and outs. To be honest, I felt like it was, at times, hard to follow, but I barely made it though. I loved the way the story was told, and Michelle Monaghan is a god damned smokeshow in this movie. Daaaym.

this was a really fun mock noir film that has a golden sense of humour and some hilarious johnny gossamer satire. not a fan of the whole 'last minute save' device used in the action scenes, makes the intensity feel rather fake.
