Like all of Rian Johnson's genre pictures, this one is clever, fast, and most of all, fun. After noir and con-men, he now delivers a take on a whodunnit that twists and turns with the best of them. The cast is uniformly great - all these old actors hamming it up as one of those terrible moneyed families - and Daniel Craigs detective is one for the ages. Ana de Armas is fantastic, the direction is crisp and witty, the music is cool, and you just walk away with a big grin on your face

It wasn't terrible but I honestly expected it to be a lot better. I love these types of movies and when I saw the trailer I couldn't wait to see it.
Unfortunately it doesn't even begin to take proper advantage of its stellar cast. Characters with accomplished actors behind them, who, given this type of movie, should have suspicions and doubts cast upon them, end up in nothing more than the periphery, as padding and the butt end of jokes. As such, the "whodoneit" ends up as a, well,...who else could it possibly be?
Far too obvious for this genre. Not remotely as clever as it pretends to be. Not a bad movie, just very disappointing.
Average movie but a fresh breath to a forgotten genre for our times. There were whodunnit tries like agatha christie remakes. But this one tried a new thing. Maybe this would lead better movies on this crime subgenre.
It has several good twists and turns and the cinematography is well done. Not your average "Whodunit?" in the slightest bit and that limits a few potentially good avenues it could have taken, you can feel the gears shift dramatically mid-way through. At well over two hours in length it could have gone in a few more perplexing directions. I agree with "MrDoog", it would have greatly improved the film if more characters were targets of suspicion.
The more characters that appear to be guilty, the more the viewer is forced to consider alternate plots and subplots, and early on that appears to be the direction, until it's simply abandoned.

The Knives Out screenplay was an engrossing, quick read. A quirky, cleverly structured black comedy whodunit with hilarious dialogue and some delightful character portraits.
The film was a joy to watch, with many wonderfully directed scenes and terrific performances all around. There were some fun casting choices, but I felt that Ana de Armas was miscast as Marta. She resembles too much the same spoiled wealthy family members who are patronizing to her. There are quite a few other Latino actresses that would have been a better fit for this role. Also it was an odd directorial choice to have the actresses playing her mother and sister sound like native English speakers while Ana sounds FOB.

Sorely disappointed by this. After all the hype and the praises, I was expecting it to be... interesting? Intriguing? Not predictable and by the numbers as it was.A star studded cast, wholly misused, if used at all.
It felt like an Agatha Christie movie. Overbaked and undercooked. A weak murder mystery with cliché characters and dynamics, cut by flashbacks of bland self important monologues.
