The more obvious and better ending to this movie: spoiler

This would be the more outlandish soap-opera ending. And thus more Almodovar-ish.

Twisted and morbid film that falls in love with its own sense of punishment. Watch how the camera lingers on angles, and the music hangs in the air. This is more a work about revenge than sexuality or the survival of identity - as one character gradually falls for his grief stricken, perverse inflictions, the other struggles to survive it long enough to the final turn. It leaves you wondering who won. A good work and recommended, but more thought provoking than strictly warm or even typically enjoyable.

It's not often that you see a psycho thriller with constant time shifts and subplots executed as brilliantly as this film. Almodovar has created a masterpiece, and I am very eager to see more from him.

Better the less you know, I guess. Outstanding.

It's strange how you trust characters in films and how they betray you.
A good film, it could've been stronger, more tense.
The cinematography however, was interesting and enjoyable.

Have to say I was pretty impressed by this one. Some great camerawork, engrossing plot, solid performances, and careful pacing. Definitely recommend it.

This is such a fascinating and beautiful film. This is the first time I saw a film by Almodovar and I will definitely give his other films a try. I only did not like Zeca's character, because it was a bit underdeveloped. I simply loved the way in which the story unfolded itself.

Wow... One of the best films I've ever seen... It's so beautifully sick... and so unexpected... the story, the twists, the acting... the... I'm speechless. Wow. Just wow.
I'm deeply moved.

Not as mind-blowing as I expected, but it is a fascinating film. Absurd, in some ways. Finally, I can take the image of Antonio Banderas as Zorro out of my mind, thx to this briliantly-executed piece of Almodovar's.

A great mix of trademark Almodovar film-making and stylish horror. The director manages to balance both elements superbly with extra bits of drama and dark comedy that fit together nicely and manage to cater to both horror and Almodovar fans alike. If you have previously enjoyed some of the director's previous work you will see the twist coming from early-on in the movie but the journey towards the inevitable ending does not disappoint. There are fantastic performances from Almodovar veterans Banderas, Anaya and Paredes, which are a testament to how accustomed and comfortable they have become with working with the director.

Nice movie, really cool idea, although I agree that it has a massive soap opera dimension to it. But without doubt one of the great psychological thrillers and revenge movies of the century (Oldboy and Memento coming to mind). I always admire directors who are not shy of complexity and depth.
The acting is pretty stiff and forced. Which is weird, Almodovar usually gets the best out of his actors (that scream of the mother in Todo sobre mi madre, unforgettable), but Banderas acting is terribly outdated, good for an old James Bond maybe (although I see that I'm the only one thinking that in the comments).
The cinematography is simple and beautiful, explicit about who's in control, and giving fitting frames for their characters (dark, sterile or futuristic frames for Robert vs the patterns, colors and textiles for Vicente - Vera).
