Good movie. Really touching at times, sometimes even funny, sometimes hard to watch because of all the violence and discrimination that we all know actually happended... it just deals with an important part of history that happened not too long ago.

Idris Elba delivered a wonderful performance - he would have deserved to be at least nominated for an Oscar. And he definately proved once again that he is a great choice for lead roles. I also adore "Ordinary Love" by U2 from the soundtrack.

Very powerful movie.

Solid but unspectacular telling of an important and incredible story.

While not at the very tip top of the best films of the year. Long Walk to Freedom is an extremely well made biography that rises above the paint by numbers Hollywoodification of a film like 42 or Fruitvale Station.

The film's strengths rise from the incredible lead performances from Idris Elba who is well on his way to proving that he is the next generation's Harrison Ford and Naomi Harris who is similarly brilliant in her portrayal of Winnie Mandela and the film explores both characters faults as well as their merits and weaves them together in a way that is best described as Macbethian.

The film is also focused in a way that most biopics are not which manages to avoid the pitfalls of meandering weaving from one important incident to another. This focus builds a narrative around Mandella's formation as a statesman; from his earliest tribal coming-of-age ceremonies to his greatest political speeches. I credit both the directing by Justin Chadwick for whom this is a large step forward from the rest of his work I have seen and the William Nicholson script.
