Philosophy 101 interpretation brought to screen. Main point here is a concious mental state can create/destory anything it wants. All we are doing in the first stage and reset stage of the film is experiencing those two mental states of the character. It doesnt matter which is real or not, all of them exist, all of them are true and all endings are real in their own plane.
The point of the film is the process that needs to happen before the healing instance can manifest. All others can and do occur before the final one does, but he needs to exhaust them and understand/learn from them before the final one makes sense.
Technically 90% of the film doesnt exist in "normal" terms, but the sacrifice of those two parallel universes are worth it for the kids final take on things 1 year 8 months ago
