Straightforward and pretty good historical account of the battle of Midway. Enjoyed it more tham I thought beforehand. Movie is hampered by some dubious CGI (most of all in the first 30minutes) and trying to cover too much story. But overall above average war movie with a THUNDERING soundtrack. 3 years 11 months ago

It was pretty much what I expected: chock full of CGI action with lackluster character development. There are numerous examples of studios cranking out a CGI-laden film with a star-studded cast and believing that just somehow audiences will flock to it but it doesn't work out that way. The battle of Midway is one of the greatest naval battles and victories in human history and by nature is difficult to capture due to the incredible amount of events happening simultaneously. The picture does a halfway decent job of portraying some of that but ultimately could have been better by spending more time on the battle and less on getting to it with the beginning of the film. It's a catch-22 though, in order to tell the story you have to lead into it and that was where they got tripped up with an overly long buildup story. 2 years 5 months ago
