There's a director's cut made in 1988 by Marlen Khutsiev with his initial cut and titled Zastava Ilijcha (Ilyich's Gate). Khutsiev's version is 20 minutes longer, mostly because of an annoying and unnecessary poetic congress scene. But the 197 minutes cut kept also three important sequences: a beautiful dance in the dark with two candles and a "Do you love me?" existentialist repeated sentence; some moments in the last scene in the street between the three friends; and the dad sequence has been filming with a different actor and a Khrushchev approved ending (Khutsiev liked incertitude as he finishes Spring on Zarechnaya Street with "..." for instance and the original ending is supposed to be what made Khrushchev furious about the film, asking that the dad find what to say to his son -- the initial scene was funnier and disillusioned).

Great film. Both versions has to be seen. Almost two different films.
