Charles Laughton is magnificent.

I enjoy this one better than the 1962 version as it more closely follows the fantastic book that it is drawing from. Laughton does a superb job in the role and his perpetual scowl punctuates his performance. Gable is excellent also and plays well against Laughton and the supporting cast.

Quite honestly, I'm surprised to see the 1935 version is listed here and not the 1962 version. The later one is a much more impressive and interesting film, and the performances are a joy to watch.
I was disappointed with this one.
