Went in expecting a serial killer drama-- but it's much more about Nazi propaganda and self-defeating heads-in-sand jingoism. The procedural aspects become a bit too subdued near the end, but it's still pretty lively and satirically funny during most of the runtime. Siodmak's lush visual senses shine during the first part of the movie but then get bogged down by too much talking. Some sequences do stand out (the opening credits, the first murder, the recreation in the forest). Overall I found it kinda underwhelming. Still recommended. 2 years ago -
