O Pagador de Promessas (1962)'s comments

This is superb, I see the streets of Salvador and I try hard to imagine this film with all the colors that city has to offer. The greatest conflicts here are urban/rural e Catholic/Candomblé and many others subjects relate to create a fine story: politics, sensationalist press, Messianism, religious power, husband/wife problems, music - berimbau, pandero, tambor -, food - abará, araçá -, music - Candomblé singing, samba, capoeira, ladainhas -, religious synchronism, poverty, literatura de cordel. This is pure beauty, a portrait of a city that reflects, in a way, dilemmas of Brazilian society that persist until nowadays. Also I watched it with English subtitles on youtube and I feel so privileged to listen and comprehend Portuguese for no other language could translate such a rich amount of expressions.
