it's a bit dated but pretty good. Overacting though LOL but I suppose it's how acting was when this was made. Thought-provoking movie ... about animal welfare, domination of species, fear of the unknown and how religion stuns science.Scratch47
Pure sci fi brilliance.DisneyStitch
This is the one that started it all and in my humble opinion none of the newer remakes/reboots or whatever you wish to call them will ever touch this one. It's very well thought out Sci-Fi and moves along at a steady pace without giving you too much to go on. Heston occasionally gets called out for overacting but if you watch some of his movies that's kind of his acting style more or less (see Soylent Green and The Omega Man.) Plus that ending, woah that ending. As one other commenter mentioned, it is chill-inducing and the movie fades out in such a calm yet creepy way. This gem from the opening monologue is brilliant: "But seen from out here, everything seems different. Time bends, space is... boundless. It squashes a man's ego. I feel lonely..."

This is the one and only Planet of the Apes, all others are crap, specially Tim Burton's ones.. One of the best endings ever!!! Don't read the comments below if you hadn't watch it, bunch of spoilers!!boromir17
GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!jktomas
I don't think that you can call the poster (which is finally gone) a spoiler anymore. I've watched the movie five minutes ago, but I knew the ending my whole life from various tv shows (like The Simpsons), parodies etc. Even the fact that there'sYou really have to live under a rock to not know that the planet the scientists arrives to

Great Movie!Siskoid
The original Planet of the Apes (1968) was and still is a classic. I love it. When you haven't seen it in a while, it still manages to surprise you, and it's a joy when the famous lines are spoken. Its parable about race relations and the way it upends the social order (East/West, North/South and Dark/Fair) still works today and the ape make-ups, though a bit stiff by today's standards, are still surprisingly expressive. Charlton Heston's George Taylor is a surprisingly misanthropic character, and Ape society is at once its mirror, its response and its solution. Much deeper than a Monkey Planet movie has any right to be.sureup
Everything is great except the acting.pim
Great movie, shame that the rest of the series aren't on the same level as the original. Tim Burton's remake isn't that great either...Typically Thomas
The ending was quite haunting, even though I'd seen plenty of parodies and knew exactly what was gonna happenjuanittomx
