Point Break deserves a fresh look. The plot and some of the scenes are admittedly ridiculous and have become the butt of many jokes, but it's so much more than that. The film unravels as this wonderfully coherent tale of spiritual corruption, brotherhood, and the desire for freedom. And, of course, there's a heaping of adrenaline-fueled action scenes that weave seamlessly into the story.
Plus, looking at it 23 years later, it perfectly bridges the gap between 80s/90s crime/action flicks by playing on old tropes (see: John C. McGinley, who is tremendous in a non-winky role) and popularizing new ones (the parkour chase scene, tight pacing/editing).
Also deserving of special mention is Swayze's hair which was arguably at its stylistic peak.
This movie is so over the top. Cheezy. Jonny Uthas voice is just terrible. But still, loved it. Many great action sequences, kind of like an 80s and 90s blend. It will never be my favourite, but I can appreciate it for what it is.
A superbly entertaining movie. Tightly cut and edited only serves to ratchet up the action and despite the plot delving into being slightly ridiculous I found myself not caring about that at all. It was a great springboard for Keanu's career and finally I now understand how he got that trademark surfer delivery of his lines that would plague many of his future movies. Swayze breaking all the production rules to actually do the skydiving himself and film it is a crowning moment in cinema.

Watch this then watch HOT FUZZ immediately after. A great double feature.Siskoid
Can you believe I'd never seen the original Point Break? Maybe I just think surfer culture is ridiculous, I dunno. But years of loving Hot Fuzz eventually broke me down, and by George, Hot Fuzz got it right - that IS the best foot chase in any action film ever. Not to mention all the other elements that now seem familiar because they were copied right out of this film. I still think the premise is silly - Keanu Reeves must learn to surf to infiltrate a gang of bank robbing surfers - but the standard of action is high, the leads don't fall prey to cliché (even if other elements do), and there's something deeper being said about the cult of personality. Worthy of its place in the action classics canon.Chikamaharry
