    Following on Hellstorm's comment..
Possibly because a lot of people (myself included) thought it was a huge dissapointment after Koyaanisqatsi.
If you look at the negative comments on IMDb you see things like 'cheap rip off', 'cash-in'.
Whilst i think the above are unfair and overstated.. I see what they mean.
I felt I was sitting through a corporate video for a multinational bank.. Lots of happy smiling children, beautiful scenery etc etc.

Oh, sure there are the 'harsh' bits.. but they get lost.. For instance.. the opening sequence... I'm sure is supposed to be showing the harshness of unremitting toil of a human chain carrying huge loads of soil up and down dangerous slopes.. and yes, briefly, be see an accident..

But so much more was sun glistening off the droplets of water, concentration on the faces...
Pause a moment.. put that sequence into old grainy B&W, montage it just a little more and.. we have something from the 1930's Soviet Union about 'nobility of the workers toil'... Exactly the opposite effect (I think) the maker intended.

Having recently been to see a Philip Glass Opera (Ahknaten) I am watching all of this trilogy for the music... brilliant in this film like the others... however this was weaker than Koyaanisqatsi as a film. 8 years ago

How the hell does this film have more dislikes than favorites? That makes no sense. 13 years 1 month ago
