Wow, I am surprised that so many people like this movie... It was well made, but not a true Hitchcock - it is too close of adaptation of the book, which is engrossing, a fun read, but... I find the dumb female protagonist really annoying, as well as the patronizing Max de Winter. I guess, at this point method acting hadn't made it to the US yet... Still, nowhere as good as Rear Window, Psycho, et al...natrajan
