Starts out very, very strong, but unfortunately loses its way during the meandering second act in the cabin and never fully recovers. There's still a lot to like however, from the performances, which are universally excellent, to the fine black and and white cinematography, to the jazz soundtrack, which is one of the best I've heard in recent memory. All these elements combine to create a surprisingly haunting, melancholic atmosphere that draws you in even when the script isn't firing on all cylinders. Safe to say that all the poetry went way over my head, but I still really enjoyed this movie. A promising debut from Andy Goddard, and the more I see of Elijah Wood the more impressed I become. 9 years 3 months ago
