Great movie. But not one of the best of Scorsese. Scorsese is such a brilliant director. I really admire his work so I was a bit nervous. Because I had heard from a friend that it wasn't such a great movie only the ending was 'kinda cool'. But I really liked Shutter Island. During the movie I was so curious about how it was going to end for the main character. The twist ending is so original! A very good movie.

I'm still baffled by this... Didn't see the twist coming, was so into the story that didn't even notice the time. Scorsese once again proves that he is the best film director ever! Leo gives another brilliant performance, but I never expect any less of him. This movie is brilliant, absolutley brilliant!

Pacing is a little off in the first 1/3 of the movie, but all in all pretty solid. I recommend it. Its like a modern day Shock Corridor.

Interesting storyline with numerous suspense to keep you thinking throughout the whole movie. However, the transitions from one scene to another is rather confusing and makes one lose the momentum to continue watching.

Nicely directed with some editing mistakes.

I liked the cinematography, it was beautifully shot. But the story did nothing for me, the "twist" was none, like someone already said, the movie is set in an asylum, so...duh. Overall overrated. The story was supposed to be so layered, so complex, that it wasn't really deep, just scratching on the surface of the crazy, although there could have been some great metaphors and allegories.
