Snow White and the Huntsman is one of those mostly monochromatic fantasy spectacles that tries to make a fairy tale feel realistic and gritty, which is largely silly given the story. If you've every wanted to see Snow White wade through human effluvia and eventually become Joan of Arc and fight in an epic battle, then this one's for you. It really wants to be Lord of the Rings, or The Hobbit I guess, what with all the fantasy dwarves. That said, I don't think it's actually bad. There are moments of wonder, and an impressive cast, which is perhaps why it disappoints in the end. There are too many interesting actors among the Seven Dwarves for them to get so little play, and if there's a romance between Snow White (Kristen Stewart not yet owning her power) and the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth doing Scottish Thor), it's quite cursory. Charlize Theron is gives a good OTT performance as the evil queen, but has strong quiet moments as well. Overall, the movie tries to pack too much into its runtime, so we flit from episode to episode and some things get lost in the process. It may not be the Snow White movie anyone wanted, but putting that aside, it's a pretty okay fantasy movie.

Liked it: Visually very beautiful, nice effects, Charlize Theron is way more beautiful than Snow White :) love her!

Hemsworth is good as well. Thankfully I watched the movie at a time when I liked Kristen Stewart a lot, but now I would probably be on the evil queen's side if I watched it again ;)

Unfortunate Synopsis

Kristen Stewart is the fairest in all the land? This was another one of those films that is poorly put together, but believes that high-priced CGI can make it into an enjoyable experience. Kind of like "Oz: The Great and Powerful" -- so if you liked that, maybe give this one a try. As for me, I want HBO to reimburse me my penny share of the cost to air this crap.

Wow this movie was underwhelming! The trailer was just so amazing, and with my high hopes I went to watch this. But alas!! Stewart all but wobbled around the screen like a half-done bowl of jelly. The plot felt contrived and kept screaming LOOK AT ME!! AIN'T I DARK!! SO EMO!!! And shoehorning the love triangle made me want to strangle the director. I mean, it probably is my fault for not realizing despite how many times I replayed the trailer, the lack of Sam Claflin's role's emphasis should definitely have put up a lot of red flags. Though I wasn't as disappointed as Prometheus. And that should say something in itself.

Wow...

What a truly dull, dreary and boring film. As a friend said, you half expected to see a starving Viggo Mortensen with his son pushing a trolley in the background.

Stewart's "acting" was nothing short of appalling. Regardless of what's happening or what emotion she's conveying, she's incapable of anything other than that lump-in-throat looks-like-she's-on-the-brink-of-tears look. And not to be sound mean and I realise this set in Snow White fictitious fantasy land, but how on earth is anyone supposed to believe that's she's the "fairest of them all", especially when they cast Theron opposite her - it was the proverbial elephant in the room for this waste of two hours.

I'm not even going to bother getting into the plot holes, inefficiencies, shabby editing and substandard script as I think i've wasted enough time on this pile of garbage by watching it.

A remarkably boring and tedious movie.

I was expecting a shallow special effects extravaganza... and it was actually a shallow borefest of a special effects extravaganza. How do they make these movies and even miss on the "entertaining" part?
Everything's bad. And the casting and performances are terrible. From the ugly kid supposed to be the fairest in the land to Stewart who looks as uneasy in a dress as Stallone would be, and Theron who overplays to a point I didn't think possible for an Oscar winner, Halle Berry non withstanding.

Surprisingly good. It's a fantastic movie that perfectly combines elements of fantasy and fairy tale-esque influences. Visually, it's completely stunning. Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth rock their role. The only let down was Kristen Stewart. She just did not embody Snow White as she's often aloof and doesn't come across believable. I don't quite understand the casting of Snow White but there's plenty of actresses who would've done a better job. Mind you, I never did think she was talented as an actress. I expected the worst, but got surprised. It has flaws but I do love a fairy tale. Unfortunately Stewart is a bit of a thorn in my eye concerning this role. Snow White is my fave fairy tale and she didn't do it justice. What I loved is the fact that we see a princess fighting in armor, as opposed to the stereotypical damsell in distress.

Far better than I was expecting. Stewart doesn't deserve 99 hundredths of the crap she gets given for her acting... Not that I wouldn't have preferred Lily Cole in the lead and Stewart in the cameo, but there's only so much even the best can do with such vapid writing.

The style was the best part, even though it's fairly rote. As unbearably saccharine as Sanctuary was, it was a lovely change after the eternal-winter pseudo-but-not-actually-low fantasy stuff that's been all the rage lately.

Um k.
That was bad. I was about too fall in love with Kristen all over again if it weren't for the blatantly hacked and misconstrued plot.
