Works better as a love letter to the local indie gig scene than as a movie. Hathaway delivers one of her stronger performances but she can't overcome a hopelessly cliched and emotionally cloying script that meanders aimlessly towards a predictably safe conclusion. The film's biggest problem is formulaic repetition: 'tearjerker hospital scene, gig scene, night singing scene, repeat' forms basically 90% of the movie, and the characters simply aren't interesting enough to make this feel like time well spent. The music is nice though, and at the very least those who can relate to stumbling into a venue at 2am and happening upon a beautiful live acoustic set with only twenty other people in the room will find some joy here. 9 years ago
