I kind of let this movie off a little bit for the super-dated effects. The whole film looks a little cheap. There is A LOT of time spent on Lois and Clarks relationship, which felt a bit like they were padding out the plot.

30 minutes of final fight scene, which is probably what you're looking for in a Superman film (not as long as Man of Steel...)
They could have cut ALL the Lex Luthor bits.
I did enjoy the movie overall. Christopher Reeve does some great character acting, with noticeably different characteristics for Clark and Kal-El. The film does, however, show it's age.
Thank you Ralf for clearing up the confusion. Apparently the director's cut is a very different movie. So it seems I'm yet to watch the real Superman II. Hopefully it doesn't have the ending that deliberately tries to piss everyone off like the Donner's ending.
This movie is great! I didn't like the original much, I thought the villain was weak and the second half of the story (true climax) was rushed and therefore weak whereas the first half, the origin of Kal-El was strong...However, Superman II, I believe is far superior and has a lot of entertainment value! Plus, the comedy truly works in this movie more than it did in the first. Great story, great movie...I loved this one!

Exciting, fun and a good follow up, although different in tone and more violent than the first movie.Watched it again with my 9 year old, both loved it. Remains great fun.
