So enjoyable! Hats off to Miyazaki's imagination!...kellyoung
@CSSCHNEIDER I thought this was one of the most exciting of Miyazki's.Deus

My favorite of the Miyazaki's so far! Just amazing and very enjoyable from start to end.Filmsthemostbeautifulart
One of Studio Ghibli's masterpieces, Laputa is the story of a boy who is determined on the fact that his father once saw a floating castle in the sky but none believed him. During his daily chores, he happens to meet a girl with a magical pendant that made her float when she fell. As the story advances, we meet many interested parties who come looking for the girl and all of them have one thing in common: They are searching for Laputa. As the mysteries unfold, we are taken more closer to Laputa. And while this happens. We Watch Spellbound! Although Laputa sounds like a children's fairy tale, it is actually the tale of bravery and keeping your promises. While the adults in the movie rely on hatred, piracy and greed, the two children rely on each other and finally succeed to defeat the bad. It's the ultimate Good vs Bad film that is rarely made these days... Laputa deserves more attention also because of the fact that it was crafted by one the most innovative artist of our time, Hayao Miyazaki, who is an expert in bringing out the child out of us... Highly Recommended...4.5/5

@olem92I don't mind. I am actually happy that so many people enjoyed this film and I'm happy that it is in IMDB top250 (at least now it is).
Also, by saying "one of the worst of Miyazaki" I didn't mean it is bad. Miyazaki's weakest films are still better that most of the movies out there.

@jktomasI couldn't disagree more. This is the best Miyazaki movie I've seen so far.

Castle in the Sky is Miyazaki's grand adventure about an Atlantis floating in the clouds, its lost heiress, the boy who would help her, and the band of air pirates they fall in with trying to get there before government forces do. Beautiful animation (obviously) is applied to great imagination, giving the audience an ever-rising sense of vertigo. The film may be high adventure, but it also has touches of humor and romance, and its score is quite beautiful and memorable. One question I do have is whether Miyazaki has thought out his use of Swift's Laputa as the name of his floating island. It is it right for it to be "the whore", or was something lost in translation. The idea of science run rampant and in this case, destroying the old civilization, does echo it however. And perhaps we should see that danger in the story's present as well, so obviously in the middle of an industrialization age. These are themes the director often returns to, but this iteration certainly stands with Princess Mononoke as one of my favorite examples of it.Scratch47
Not the greatest or most powerful Miyazaki work, but still very exciting, and sets the groundwork for his later triumphs very well. I particularly like the pirate (or is that irate?) lady and her goons. :Dpramodc84

Beautiful!kaffy
It encapsulates so many of Myazaki's standby's, the dark haired female protagonist, the old woman, even the sassy pregnant lady gets in with a few one-liners during the fight scene just to name a very few. He's just warming up at this point, and it's interesting to see this having watched most of his "greats" first.roobin_22
the beginning was bad.. for the rest it was beautifulJedirobbo
If you don't have fun watching this movie, I think you just don't like movies. I watched it recently for the first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not the best Miyazaki film sure, but it's still gorgeous, with likable characters and interesting narrative.Showing items 1 – 15 of 19
