   Reinforces my belief that philosophy students love using philosophy to justify their own lifestyles.
   
   Can be read through a few different lenses, and I did appreciate the commentary on the US not being able to reconcile with its history of (addiction to) rapacious foreign policy.

   Look-- I won't object to people calling it pretentious-- or even boring. But what is completely undeniable is that if you open up a little bit to what it's saying or thinking then you're left with a mystery that's worth exploring. Is evil something we can ever come to understand? Are human beings incapable of escaping their basest instincts other than through God and humbleness? Why is it easier to submit to evil and addiction rather than refuse to cave in? Is all of philosophy solipsistic bullshit that can be used to justify anything? I don't think it's an easy movie to understand-- or if it is even understandable. Kinda hard to argue that it isn't all over the place... and yet I did feel something profound when this infinitely cool and hallucinatory film ended. Plus I liked the music. 2 years ago
