Ah! What the hell! Didn't like this even a wee bit..bitchypixels
I agree with pretty much everything Big ander said. The only good thing I have to say about this weird inconsistent blur of a film is that I'm happy they incorporated the technical webbing somehow. I wasn't really impressed with the organic thing going on with the "original".. I find the fact that I can't remember any key parts of the movie besides the hideous lizard and little snippets of the banter between Parker and Stacy to be a bit sad, and I watched this two days ago. Bottom line: I was expecting a breath of fresh air but got a big gust of stale fart insteadSorry, Webb. You should have stuck with music videos, since that's pretty much how you directed this film.

@mikhaelmt: The Awkward Spider-Ass?Anyway, this film was pretty bland for a movie about a guy who jumps around in red spandex. It's like they didn't want to make it too gritty but didn't want to make it too silly, so in the end it ended up in the middle, completely flat. And the plot was all over the place. It's certainly no Spider-Man 2. But it's okay. Not great, not bad. Just... eh.

How many times will they make the beginning again and again differently?Rasheru
Really didn't like the Lizardman's design (and his sound effects were just stupid). The story was generally interesting enough with quite a few funny moments, but Spider-Man himself was not believable at all. I don't know if the producers/scriptwriters have ever seen an intelluctual reject in high school, but that Peter Parker had wayyyyyyy too much attitude and self-confidence. The cool kids act and talk that way. He was also so angsty it was annoying.IreneAdler
Absolutely horrible.I hated the dialog - it was supposed to be cool but it was just ridiculous. Andrew Garfield's performance was at times just annoying - Tobey Maguire was loads better as Spider Man. The whole story was a lot less appealing and emotional this time and also less interesting.
Rhys Ifans' performance was quite intense but that alone could not save the movie.

The number of negative comments actually surprises me. I was so disappointed in 2nd and 3rd Spiderman, that this movie stayed on my to-watch list way too long - just because I was scared to see it. But I've just watched it and I love it! They really capture the fact that Spiderman actually is just a sarcastic kid (he IS in a high-school still), who has gotten the power he himself doesn't understand. Yeah, maybe the villain could've been better (I don't get why he suddenly turned in a villain, he was too much of a "good guy", to succumb to some weird motivations), maybe the first-person cam in moments wasn't a good idea, maybe the first 30 minutes were better than the rest of the movie, but still - it was enjoyable, funny and kind of made me believe in Spiderman again (wow, that was sappy). And it might be also because I really, really didn't like Maguire in the previous ones. It's nice to see someone else.

Thought it started out fine, got a bit mediocre, and ended up laughable -- all that stuff with the cranes...!For me, the tone, style, and general content of Raimi's first two films was certainly superior to this. Amazing is a little messy in places, but at least it's not as confused as Spider-Man 3.

To be honest, I liked the trilogy, and I like this new one as well. The story lines are always a bit cheesy, because HEY! It's Hollywood! I think Andrew Garfield does a marvellous job, and I like him best as Spidey. He at least has got the humour down:) Toby Maguire did a good job as well, and the Mary-Jane + Peter stuff was just better than the Peter + Stacy relationship. Overall, very enjoyable evening(s), in both cases.Earring72
Rather pointless remake/reboot......had a big sense of deja vu all the way through watching. Nothing original in the high school scenes and the villian is a "mad" scientist....clever ehum.....but still well made and ok for sunday afternoon, but totally forgettable. Also at least 30min too long........gerardogm
A little bit disappointing. Besides, the OST is truly unfortunate. It made me remember the first time when i saw the 2002 film, and how good it was. I can't believe they have the same rating on iMDB. The time of death of Uncle Ben keeps being so fucking tragic every time.Joelston
There's a lot to like here and a lot to dislike. The chemistry between Garfield and Stone is the highlight but otherwise it's fairly standard stuff.dpanter
Thanks Hollywood for raping my childhood again and again. People honestly think this one is better than the Maguire ones? Stuff like that makes you reconsider sanity.Inconsistencies seem to be the fashion in Hollywood this century and there are plenty here. Only thing that is consistent is Webb's horrible directing and Garfield's insanely long neck, it's like 2 feet long. Immensely distracting.
The comment from Big ander is absolutely spot on.
This was a sad and unnecessary reboot, with so much wasted potential it could fill the Atlantic ocean. I felt more and more insulted as the movie progressed, and when we got to the crane scene... omfg. I could not believe my eyes. Physically manifested psychological distress ensued. (Feel free to google that btw)
I guess MJ and JJJ will show up in the inevitable sequel(s?); that is, if they ever do. The mind shudders.
