   A very dated movie. What is important to remember is why this movie was so highly lauded. It was because sound was new and everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. In hindsight many of the early sound films weren't very good because they threw away plot in favor of music. It's kind of how 3-D movies often are. They throw all their effects at the wall in 3-D but forget to worry about their plot. 11 years 9 months ago

   I found this movie a bit of a let down after watching the previous years winner, Wings. However, after another viewing I did start to discover things about it that I liked. I liked the sacrifice made by Hank, so that her sister could be happy. The woman doing tap dancing on pointe just blew my mind. I didn't even know that was possible. I don't know the movies it was nominated against, so I refuse to pass judgment on whether it deserves to be a Best Picture Winner. 8 years 10 months ago
