The film has forgotten the face of its father, but isn't the train wreck people have been going on about.
If you're expecting a faithful adaptation, stop expecting that. It borrows bits from the books and makes something else. That something else is just YA sci-fi in this world. Fear not. There are other worlds than these.
A strong villain performance by McConnahey with surprisingly well-done action, but Elba seemed bored. Also, the choice to make it about the kid seemed silly considering the reason people want to see this movie. The plot would be meaningless to someone without the book background and even to those with book knowledge, it's pretty dumb. It was all very generic good vs evil. No motivation beyond "bad guys wants to do bad things" and "good guy wants to do good things". Bad. Insulting. Messy. Maybe Sony should just stop making bad movies.
As a long-suffering Constant Reader and viewer of King films and miscellanea, this is nowhere as bad as the critics--and pretentiously stubborn fans--would have you believe.
Nowhere as bad as reviews made it - judging the film itself as someone who hasn't read any of the books.
Kinda bland and sketchy, like there was something bigger planned, though. Doesn't completely fail or torture you like other recent blockbuster trash. also thanks to a forget-supporting length of just 94 minutes.
I didn't think an awful lot of this. The acting isn't great and the storyline has massive holes in it. It's like Nikolaj Arcel took a handful of the parts he liked from the books, and moulded them into some semblance of a 95 minute film. If you've watched this without reading the books... READ THE BOOKS.!

As someone who has read the book series five times start to finish, all I can say is... no.Pauljt1980

I want my 94 minutes back.I'm pretty certain that King has a curse or something, since 90% of his books' movie adaptions are utter schlock.
