As mentioned in other comments, the ending is terrible, unnecessary and makes a complete joke of an otherwise decent thriller. The script fails to investigate the numerous interesting angles related to perception, the value of truth and so, everything just falls flat.
De Palma could have made a great product from this kind of material.
