Some parts were wildly entertaining and engaging, namely the acrobatics and the trapeze stunts! But overall, I Hated it. At the beginning, they showed the care and concern they had for the animal performers, so I was mollified and thinking it would strictly be an entertaining picture.Camille Deadpan
Not the greatest show (movie) I've ever seen.1. I don't like clowns.
2. I don't like animals in circus cause I'm pretty sure they don't treat them right most of the time.
So this movie was more a 'no no' than a 'yes' for me.

The best parts of the movie were when the director actually focused on the circus performance which were masterfully filmed. I could do with out the melodrama plot.St. Gloede
How this won Best Picture is a world class mystery!Forzelius
I enjoyed it, felt too promotional at times but the sets were something to marvel at and you had some funny characters for distraction. Definitely not as bad as it's blamed of being. It's not the films fault for coming out at the same year than Singin' in the Rain!Matt Addis
Definitely one of the weaker best picture winners. And to think this won over singing in the rain and high noon!locovoco
There is one great shot...it's only a brief moment...you might even miss it if you blink...KPND
I liked seeing the '50s circus a lot. Was confused by the attitudes toward marriage. They seemed to be willing to get married almost arbitrarily - is that accurate for the period? Seems ridiculous.samlowery
Ugh. This played like a 2-1/2 hour commercial for Barnum & Bailey. The narration was so shameless I found myself rolling my eyes. "Listen to Britain" had less propaganda. The highlights for me were the celebrity cameos.rwj
OK movie but the editing was terrible... bad cuts all over!Torgo
Man, Jimmy Stewart really hammed it up for his Joker origin story.Cool Hand Luke
Not the greatest, but definitely an entertaining movie!DisneyStitch
It plods along and serves as almost a documentary of sorts. One can almost see it becoming a historical film as Barnum and Bailey just wrapped their final show a few days ago. Normally I really wouldn't mind that this got Best Picture in 1952 but the fact that Singin' in the Rain, one of the greatest films of all time, didn't even get nominated is cinematic blasphemy.greenhorg
This has the fourth lowest IMDb rating of the 'Best Picture' winners, and came out the same year as Singin’ in the Rain (#84 on the top 250), which wasn't even nominated. That said, I personally considered this an okay movie.
