This film's most interesting feature is Dana Elcar's sweat stains. They steal every scene they're in.

Good premise but not executed very well. Some of the actors performances were wooden and dialogue lacked depth. Some great supporting acting actors made some the script work.

A serious and sensitive (if sometimes a little melodramatic) look at race relations in 1920s Kansas. Also historically significant as the firs major-studio film with a black director, and one of the inaugural 25 inductees into the Library of Congress' National Film Registry. Available on the Criterion Channel as of May 2021. 8.5/10
