@ntan - respectfully, I have to disagree. Unfortunately, the common perception of what constitutes a horror film has become very narrow in recent decades, but the concept of horror is much broader than jump scares, blood, and boogeymen. Filmsite.org offers one as good a definition of the horror genre as any others I have seen:
quote:"Horror Films are unsettling films designed to frighten and panic, cause dread and alarm, and to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking finale, while captivating and entertaining us at the same time in a cathartic experience. Horror films effectively center on the dark side of life, the forbidden, and strange and alarming events. They deal with our most primal nature and its fears: our nightmares, our vulnerability, our alienation, our revulsions, our terror of the unknown, our fear of death and dismemberment, loss of identity, or fear of sexuality."
If we take any of those elements and ask ourselves what truly invokes them, we can take a much broader view of horror in general. Yes, this film very much plays as a straightforward drama at times, but it also has some truly dreadful moments. The horror is largely psychological and more 'realistic' than the typical horror movies of today. 5 years 5 months ago -

I am so split on this movie. My biggest flaw with it is that it shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as horror. Its genre everywhere is classified as "Gothic horror", and it's just not.
Yes there are supernatural elements but it is a straight up drama.
I won't spoil the ending but I will say that it redeems the movie as a whole. I really liked how it ends. 5 years 8 months ago
