"The Long Day Closes" is one of the best films I've seen in a while. A sumptuous tour through sense memory, the film is further proof that under the cool exterior of British stoicism lies a sentimentality guided by perspective. 10 years 2 months ago

I don't like Davies or this film but if there's one thing this film isn't it's pretentious. It's clearly very personal and emotionally sincere. 12 years 4 months ago

It's a pure film. While its poetry (and, unfortunately, a lot of the musical choices) don't speak directly to me and my sensibilities, it's truly unlike other films.
Pretentious? Not so much. I think of it as of a poem.
