It's good, but it's no Seven Samurai.

Of course, the western genre is the perfect place for any American remake of a samurai film, and this goes to prove it. But while this had nothing on its predecessor (which was almost an hour and a half longer and far more entertaining), "Seven" did have its moments; The photography and craftsmanship were top notch. The acting though seemed a little stiff with certain characters (while others like Brynner and Wallach were great). Overall, I give the film one star for each star. 7/10

Im a huge fan of Shichinin no samurai (Seven Samurai), on which this movie is based. So i was kinda hesitant to watch this to be honest. But now that i've watched it, i really liked it... alot.

Sure it's not as good as Seven Samurai, but it is still very much a great movie.
In fact it is now one of my favorite Westerns for sure.

Very much a template for future mega-blockbusters—with all the good and bad things that entails.

Have you seen ''The Good, The Bad & The Ugly'' or ''Once Upon a Time in the West''?

I may be biased for my general dislike of westerns, but Seven Samurai was better.

this is like the second western which is a complete makeover of a japanese samurai film, like a fistful of dollars with yojimbo.. does anyone knows another one?

Though full of classic scenes, Yul Brenner and Horst Buchholz stick out like sore thumbs. More than made up for by the rest of the cast though.
