While, I don't find it as annoying as some other Jerry Lewis films (Sailor Beware), it still isn't funny at all. The recent American Blu-ray looks very good and I did like the initial transformation scene.

Funnily enough, I was the opposite of Khazar and I actually found Buddy Love to be more actively annoying then Professor Klemp.

I liked it a lot, although I'm not surprised by the negative comments. I don't blame them; Lewis' comedy is hard to stomach; but if it clicks with you, the other aspects of his filmmaking begin to shine. The costumes, the art direction and the cinematography are remarkable. He also knows how to begin and end scenes. It's easy to see why Cahiers loved him.

The tracking shot after the transformation scene (and the surprise about what kind of beast Professor Klemp turned into) was my highlight of the first half! Alas, it was my only positive impression up until then ..
Not badly made, this film, but both Lewis characters were two different kinds of too jerky for me and not that funny; a bad sign for a comedy, a genre of which I prefer other works from that time.

A very problematic movie, as Jerry Lewis was an acquired taste even in his heyday. My takeaways were (a) the movie couldn't decide if it was supposed to be set at a high school or a college, (b) I'm guessing about 90% of Love's lines were cribbed from Dean Martin, and (c) this was a tour de force for Edith Head, and is almost worth watching for that alone.

Better than the Eddie Murphy version, for sure, but only because that's one of the worst movies I've ever seen. This would still be in my bottom 20%, though--goes back and forth between being mildly unfunny (Buddy Love) and actively annoying (Professor Klemp).
